The good news is this sub $10 remote works perfectly. It is bigger than the genuine Samsung remote that came with my TV, with much more room between the buttons and partial illumination. All remote functions work just as they are supposed to and it even pairs perfectly with my Samsung soundbar. However, on first touch, you can tell it is not up to Samsung's usual QC standards due to the sharp edges and rough finish which would not be a problem in itself at this price.The seller calls this a "general remote" for Samsung products so everything should be fine, right? The problem is this is not a generic remote. It is branded as Samsung with dodgy screening of the company name and model number and even includes a sticker on the back warning of reduced batter life if using illumination, just like the genuine article. "Samsung" is etched into the battery cover just like the original. In fact, it is an exact copy of a real Samsung remote. And, therein lies a big problem. Amazon is selling a fake product.This was purchased to work with the new JS8500 which only comes with a few-button wand you point at the TV...very hard to use if you have medium to poor fine motor hand control. This also works with my older ES8000.I considered 2 stars because it does work. But, I ordered a second one because I thought the first was defective. Both had the same issue.Primarily, you have to press very hard on the buttons to get them to send a signal. So hard that often I would push the remote right out of my hand! Or the signal would not seem to register because I didn't press hard enough. Or take a beat longer to display because of the extra time need to press hard and hold, instead of dancing across the keys as a good remote will allow.Since both the JS8500 and ES8000 can use the same remote, I searched for my original ES8000 model (AA59-00637A) and found several hits. I chose one and made the order. I got model BN59-01179A with a note that the other was not made any more and to try this one for 30 days, free return, no questions asked.The 1179A is a 5-star product (!) and does as much as this one, plus it has glow in the dark buttons and bigger text (black on white keys, easier to see than white on black). Some of the keys below the A-D letters are different, but they do work and may provide a more direct access to some menu categories. This is on Amazon, with all 11 ratings 4-5. I see neither of my TVs are listed on their good-with specs, but it does work with both.All I had to do was install new batteries. It works like the original. I bought it specifically because I wanted a lit keyboard. Nobody can watch TV at night with a remote that has no lighting. This is the perfect replacement.Update: hate the fact that not ALL keys illuminate...I would like to see more than just volume and channel buttons illuminated. Still a good replacement.Purchased this for an additional remote. It's not a Samsung OEM remote but it works just the same. Didn't have to do anything extra to it to get to function. The smart tv button works like all of my other remotes. Would definitely purchase this again if needed.Great as a replacement remote! We have 2 Samsung Smart TVs and one of our remotes died (it was a different version, way more expensive, but very finicky apparently). This works perfectly as a replacement - no issues so far and hopefully it will last a lot longer then its predecessor.Works great.
